I love your enthusiasm that you have for soup joumou particularly on the first of the year.
In the memory of some of us who fell last January 12th and its consequences, we only have soul Haitian food this year.
We had Tiaca for Christmas.
We had soup pain this morning instead of soup joumou. We had water cress and tomatoes, pickleeze and avocado as salad.
We had salted morue and harengs and plaintains and manioc.
for desert we served pain patate ak kremasse All Haitian soul food.

I don't think soup joumou is made out of pumpkin.
I believe it's made out of calabasa squash.

I have been eating soup joumou for over 30 years and I have never ever, ever seen it made with milk.
Is this something that you added? Does the milk change the flavor or consistency of the soup? Wait a minute! And nutmeg? I have never heard of that.
Is this is diasporized version of soup joumou?

Gimonade or soup joumou?
With all due respect I think this recipe is for gimonade not soup joumou.
when you add macarony with the vegetables it is soup joumou but once you add rice it's no longer soup it's gimonade.
P.S. If i am wrong please forgive me.
I am waiting for your reply

When making soup joumou for new year's day, my granma usually brings joumou from Haiti.
She says that the frozen sqwash in the supermarket is just not the same a using the real Haitian joumou.
This year there is no Joumou from Haiti, will I still have a delicious soup from frozen swash or is she right about the taste?

Soup Joumou, Tradition, Symbolism, or just a plain old habit?
Lately, the consumption of soup joumou has become just an old habit for Haitians.
It seams we have forgotten its true history and purpose.
Soup Joumou - This soup was the touchstone of Haiti's fervent wish for peace and freedom
Soup Joumou was a symbol of communion and brotherhood
