When I was in Haiti, they used "sour orange" as the acid, not lime or lemon.
It's a tropical type fruit...
I've seen it around...
most readily at costco...
I've had it with Habanero's as well...

Do you mean pickleys?? The one with shredded cabbage and carrots?? My haitian friend's grandmother said to use:
cabbage (shredded)
carrots (shredded)
scotch bonnet pepper (1)(depending on heat preference)
lemon juice
vinegar
accent seasoning
combine and shake and...
let it set for 24 hours.
That's what she told me. I tried it and I think I put too much vinegar because that's just what it smells like.
Eventually, I'll get the right amount to use for everything.
